Program
1st Day: From Nairobi to Lake Nakuru National Park
Arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi, the agency manager and your Tour Leader who will accompany you throughout the safari will be waiting for you and will help you with the formalities for entering Kenya.
Once the formalities have been completed, in a 4×4 jeep, you will set off towards Lake Nakuru, your first destination on this fantastic safari.
Through a unique panoramic route that crosses the “Rift Valley” you will arrive, after about 3 hours, at the Lake Nakuru National Park.
Entrance to the Park and game drive until lunchtime with arrival at the Lake Nakuru Lodge where you will stay your first night in the savannah.
Check-in, welcome aperitif, room assignment, lunch and relax.
In the afternoon, game drive to discover this wonderful Park until sunset.
Lake Nakuru is one of the lakes of the Rift Valley and is located 4 km south of the city of Nakuru, Kenya, at an altitude of 1754 m above sea level. Its waters are characterized by a high soda content.
The origin of the name Nakuru comes from the Masai language and has the meaning of “dust” or “dusty place”, originally used for the city of the same name.
The National Park (188 km² in size) was established in 1961, around the lake of the same name, essentially to protect the very large colony of pink flamingos that lived here feeding on microcrustaceans and algae. The number of flamingos varies based on the amount of food, related to the salinity of the water.
The land around the lake is marshy, as you move away from the water, it dries up and becomes forest, dry forest, tree savannah and flat savannah. To the west rises the western escarpment of the Rift Valley. Initially there were waterbucks, impalas, warthogs, baboons, some buffalo and only two elderly black rhinos.
Given the proximity to the city and cultivated areas, in 1987 the government installed an electric fence (along the perimeter of 188 km), to protect the animals from poachers.
It was decided to use this “fenced” park to study and experiment with the introduction of foreign species. First a small group of rare Rothschild giraffes were introduced and then other black rhinos, taken from at-risk areas of Kenya.
Given the good results, they continued: after 1988, a herd of white rhinos was introduced, coming from the private reserve Solio Ranch, but originally from South Africa. In the meantime, the buffalo had become too numerous, consequently, in the mid-nineties, some lions were released.
The park also features Grant’s zebras, elands, hippos, leopards and striped hyenas, as well as a rich bird life. Lake Nakuru is also protected by the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands.
The 2009 census found more than 25 black rhinos (one of the largest concentrations in the country), and about 70 white rhinos.
At the end, return to the lodge for a hot shower, an aperitif and dinner, overnight stay in the lodge.
2nd Day: From Lake Nakuru National Park to Aberdare National Park
Breakfast, check-out and game drive in the Park to the exit gate where you will continue to the Aberdare National Park, expected arrival at the Aberdare National Park and at The Ark Lodge which is located in the center of the Park for lunch time.
Check-in, welcome aperitif, assignment of the room, lunch and relax.
In the afternoon, game drive in the Park to discover the animals that live there and walking safari, accompanied by the tour leader, among the waterfalls that are located inside the forest.
Aberdare National Park is a protected area in Kenya established in 1950. It is located in central Kenya, approximately 180 km north of Nairobi.
It is home to a rich fauna including over 200 species of birds and 50 to 60 species of mammals.
Mammals in the park include a number of threatened species including the black rhinoceros, the hog-eared rhinoceros, the red-backed bushpig, the African golden cat, the bongo, the African elephant and the colobus.
Small mammals endemic to the region include the Surdisorex norae and Tachyoryctes audax, both of which are considered vulnerable species.
As for the herpetic fauna, mention should be made of the Montatheris hindii viper (Viperidae) present only here and on Mount Kenya, and the endemic amphibians of the central Kenyan highlands, including Hyperolius montanus, Hyperolius cystocandicans, Amietia wittei and Phrynobatrachus kinangopensis. Among the over 200 species of birds, mention should be made of Aviceda cuculoides, Buteo oreophilus, Francolinus jacksoni, Scleroptila psilolaema and Tauraco hartlaubi. In the higher areas, Nectarinia johnstoni is found, while at lower altitudes Nectarinia tacazze and Nectarinia reichenowi are found. The Cisticola aberdare can be found locally in the tussock moorland.
At the end, return to the lodge for a hot shower, an aperitif and dinner, overnight stay in the lodge.
3rd Day: From Aberdare National Park to Samburu National Reserve
Breakfast, check-out and game drive in the Reserve to the exit gate where you will continue to the Samburu National Reserve, today the route will be more challenging, about 3 hours and 30 crossing spectacular landscapes and if lucky you will enjoy the view of Mount Kenya during the route.
You will arrive for lunch at the Samburu National Reserve and the Ashnil Samburu Camp, where you will stay, crossing the Park.
Check-in, welcome aperitif, assignment of the room lunch and relax waiting for the afternoon game drive.
In the afternoon game drive in this magnificent national reserve until sunset.
Samburu National Reserve is a small protected natural area in Kenya. It is located in central Kenya, north of the Ewaso Nyiro River, and includes the Koitogor and Ololokwe mountains. It covers a total area of 165 km². It forms a system of three adjacent parks together with Buffalo Springs National Reserve and Shaba National Reserve.
The reserve is located north of the equator, within the Samburu district. The name “Samburu” is that of the local people.
Fauna includes elephants, buffalo, Grant’s zebra, numerous species of gazelle, impala, waterbuck, Beisa oryx, cheetah, leopard, lion, crocodile, hippopotamus, and a large number of bird species.
Three species typical of north-east Africa are also present: the giraffe antelope or gerenuk, the Grevy’s zebra and the reticulated giraffe.
Rhinos have long been absent, due to poaching.
At the end of the visit, return to the camp for a hot shower, an aperitif and dinner, overnight stay in a tent.

The Conservancy is a 360 km2 (140 sq mi) non-profit conservation area in Laikipia County, central Kenya.
It is located on the equator west of Nanyuki, between the foothills of the Aberdares and Mount Kenya. The Conservancy works to conserve wildlife, provide a sanctuary for great apes, and generate revenue through wildlife tourism and ancillary businesses for reinvestment in conservation and community development.
The Conservancy boasts the largest black rhino sanctuary in East Africa; in 2013 it reached the milestone population of one hundred eastern black rhinos.
It is also home to the world’s two remaining northern white rhinos, which were translocated there from Dvůr Králové Zoo in the Czech Republic. The Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary is located here, providing a sanctuary for orphaned, abandoned, and rescued chimpanzees. It is the only place in Kenya where chimpanzees can be seen.
The Conservancy is home to the “Big Five Game” animals among a wide selection of other African animals, making it a notable safari destination.
It also operates a breeding program that benefits local pastoralists and wildlife.
Through the conservancy’s Community Development Program, Ol Pejeta provides funding to surrounding communities to support health, education, water and infrastructure projects. They also support the provision of agriculture and livestock extension services and the development of community-based conservation tourism initiatives.

Breakfast, check-out, game drive in the Conservancy to the exit gate where you will continue to the city of Nairobi, on a scenic route of about 4 hours, lunch is planned at a typical Nairobian restaurant, The Carnivore Restaurant, a magical place where meats are roasted on traditional Masai swords on a huge charcoal pile that dominates the entrance to the restaurant. The exposed beams combine the rustic atmosphere of a rural setting with that of a medieval banquet hall.
Carnivore doesn’t conform to family dining traditions. First, the soup of the day is served alongside a plate of homemade bread and butter. Then, an army of carvers moves to table after table, swords drawn, carving juicy cuts of meat onto sizzling cast iron plates.
Accompanying the meat feast is a selection of salads, vegetable sides, and sauces.
The feeding frenzy won’t stop until you declare defeat by raising the white paper flag perched on the center tray. Dessert and coffee follow.
After lunch, proceed to Sarova Stanley in Nairobi where you will check in with a welcome drink, room assignment and some relax.
In the afternoon you will visit the Giraffe Centre in Nairobi, the Africa Fund for Endangered Wildlife (A.F.E.W.) Kenya was founded in 1979 by the late Jock Leslie-Melville, a British-born Kenyan, and his American-born wife, Betty Leslie-Melville.
They founded the Giraffe Centre after discovering the plight of the Rothschild Giraffe. A subspecies of giraffe found only in the grasslands of East Africa.
The Giraffe Centre has also become world-renowned as a Wildlife Education Centre, educating thousands of Kenyan schoolchildren each year.
There are now over 300 safe and well-breeding Rothschild Giraffes in various national parks in Kenya.
Recent herds have been introduced to Soysambu Ranch at Lake Elementaita in the Great Rift Valley, Kigio Conservancy and Sergoit Ranch in the Mount Elgon region.
At the end of the visit, return to the hotel to prepare for dinner.
Dinner is scheduled in a restaurant outside the hotel, at the customers’ choice, suggested by your tour leader.
